Q: Tell us about yourselves, where are you moving from and what is your buying journey?

We are Ray and Debbie. This is our 5th move. Debbie and I moved to Essex 3.5 years ago and quite frankly, the experience wasn't very good. They were a large developer and quite frankly, it was all very disappointing. It took 2 years to identify all the remedial works that has been done. And it was very frustrating, especially for someone, you know, in the industry. So anyway, we decided that, because all my family, living and at school in the area it was time for us to move back over this way.

I've been in the construction industry all my life, retired a couple of years ago as a main board director for Countryside properties who were a very high end builder in Essex. I worked for them for many, many years building new houses. So yes, I have a bit of knowledge of the housing industry.

Q: Great. So you would know what to look for and what constitutes a nice, well-built house?

I'm very much aware that the houses are built by hand, they're built in all sorts of weathers, and nothing is perfect, but yes, it's a difficult industry to please everybody, to be honest.

These houses are very nicely finished. I mean, you look at most new housing, and you get about six paving slabs in the garden, you can't even put deck chairs on it. Just something as simple as that, I could move into this new home and I haven't got to do anything other that to put in a few plants in.

Q: How did you hear about Alderhurst and what made you choose to make your new home here?

We started looking around Winkfield, but we noticed your advert and came into the site, you were the 1st of 4 properties we were viewing on that day. So we called in there 1st and I have to say, the moment I drove into the development, I knew it was where I wanted to live. The only other time I had that feeling was when I bought my 1st house many, many years ago.

Anyway, I drove in and we had a look around, had a lovely conversation with the sales consultant who was very professional and let us look around without any pressure or sales jargon. We had a look at plot 7 and we actually liked it very much. I could see also that the builder was doing a good job. I just had that feeling. Anyway, when we went to view the other 3 houses, it was too late because I'd already had my heart set on Alderhurst and didn’t look back, and that's where we are.

We purchased plot 8 which was a better plot for us, in terms of its size, you know, we're downsizing from a 5 bed, 3 story house, we have a big garden but because I'm not the age now, I love gardening, don't get me wrong, but I really don't need a big garden. It was south facing as well and I'm a sun worshipper.

The actual development, I can see already in my mind, it's going to be a nice community there. We've had three and a half years of living somewhere that never felt like home, we knew, we weren't going to stay.

We just fell in love with it. We really did, and, you know, this is our last move, this is our forever home now.

Q: You bought using our Part Exchange scheme, how did you find the process?

We had a house to sell on a bigger estate so when Part Exchange was suggested we jumped at the opportunity. We've never done a Part Exchange before and it has gone very well, to be honest with you. We were concerned that by selling privately we wouldn't get to exchange and complete in time, and we didn't want to lose the house so from our point of view, it was a bit nerve-wracking, but the whole part exchange process was managed very well. Having done 5 moves I have to say this was a smoothest so far. Yeah, we're so relieved be honest with you.

From the sales point of view, right through to completion, Tracy our Client Liaison Executive was wonderful. She really was. And me being very well versed in, you know, what happens, with a new build, the process, the handover, I've been used to that for many, many years and she did a very, very good job, we were very pleased.

Q: So, I suppose the last thing to ask you would be, if you knew somebody that was looking to buy a new home, would you recommend Nicholas King Homes to someone?

100%, I’d definitely recommend Nicholas King Homes. 100%. More than 100%. I'm so happy.
