History and community

Steeped in history, Ottershaw is known for its historical significance and community atmosphere.  It developed in the mid-19th century and became a parish in 1871.  The village features Christ Church (C of E), built by Sir Edward Colebrooke which is a Grade II Listed building and still open. Ottershaw is also recognised for its retirement community and cultural attractions, making it a desirable place to live and visit.

Previously 'Ottershaw' had referred only to the Ottershaw Park farm/estate. The name is but is likely to be derived from the medieval 'outer' and 'shaw' meaning a small wood, therefore 'outer wood'.


The great outdoors

For lovers of the great outdoors, Ottershaw is a bit of a gem. The wonderful surrounding countryside offers miles of walking routes and woodlands to explore. A short stroll from Woodlands, via the adjacent public footpath, you have 9.4 hectares of newly provided Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) in the new Country Park providing a 2.4 km walking route, community orchard, attractive wetlands and areas for natural and woodland play, perfect for a weekend picnic or a leisurely stroll with the dog.

 

Well connected

Ottershaw provides quick access to London if travelling by car, or train (via Woking). But if you are seeking exotic destinations further afield Heathrow is a 30 minute drive onto a destination of your choice. Woking Station is rated top by London commuters and is a short 4 miles drive from home, and the M25 five minutes away. There is also a bus stop just 0.2 miles from your front door which can take you to many stops around the area including Woking Station.


Culinary delights

The historical Castle Inn gastro pub in the village which dates back to 1804 offering a great selection of food and drinks and is renowned for its Sunday Roasts.  There is also an award-winning Indian Restaurant and a Miller & Carter Steak House in the village.  Just a few minutes drive from the development at Foxhills you will find award winning Fine Dining in their 19th Century Manor house or lighter bites available in their casual brasserie-style bar & restaurant.  Further afield in Weybridge you will find a charming high street with a diverse range of stores and renowned eateries.


Near by shopping and entertainment

Ottershaw village centre is just a 2 minute drive from Woodlands or a leisurely stroll and offers a range of amenities for day to day essentials including a Post Office and Londis convenience store. There are a number of larger supermarkets just a short drive away including Waitrose, Sainsburys and Morrisons. There is no shortage of things to do in the surrounding towns. Woking has the New Victoria theatre, a flagship David Lloyd that has just undergone a £4million refurbishment and Victoria Place with over 150 stores and eateries. Nearby Addlestone has a cinema, Top Golf and for the really energetic, KickX. The Heart Shopping Centre in Walton-On-Thames, just 20 minutes away hosts a variety of retail stores and eateries.


Excellent schooling

A diverse selection of nursery and school options are accessible from Woodlands, with an array of educational choices for every stage of your family’s needs all rated ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Ottershaw provides a nursery, infant, and junior school, all conveniently located nearby. For older students, numerous reputable secondary schools, both independent and state, are available in the neighbouring towns.
